brochureIdentification and elimination of sewage discharges to municipal storm drainage systems are required as part of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program.

sde is recognized as an industry leader in the Northeast for providing field investigative services.
sde is responsible for identifying both direct and indirect sources of sewage discharging to stormwater outfalls throughout several municipalities. The work includes:

We have been providing these services to the city of Boston since 2001. We assisted in developing many of the current procedures used today and have implemented and refined those procedures developed prior to 2001. These procedures have been used in other communities, as required by EPA, and are commonly referred to as the “top down” approach. sde also provides services conforming to other approaches.

We also provide additional services such as wet weather outfall, runoff sampling, and GPS surveys of outfalls for this type of project.

All data are collected electronically in the field. Data are downloaded and stored in a database that can then be directly uploaded into GIS.

Projects and municipalities where we’ve provided these services include the following:

Citywide Illegal Connection Investigation, Phase 1 – Boston, MA
Citywide Illegal Connection Investigation, Phase 2 – Boston, MA
Stony Brook Illegal Connection Investigation – Boston, MA
Roxbury Canal Sewer Separation Project – Boston, MA
Medford, MA
